The Patzcar Dance is a very good example of the Indigenous view about the European colonization and the Western Culture. The word "Patzcar" means Boss; the plot of the ceremony is the life at a ranch and the cowboys that work at the ranch are played by Indigenous people. The Patzcar has a wife or daughter, the "Patzcarina"; the cowboys will fight each other with whips (for real) to earn the love of the Patzcarina. The winner will take her away, fooling the boss. Most of the Patzcar Masks have white skin, moustaches, chin beard and some even have sunburned cheeks, indicating the European roots. This character was painted black with red stains on mouth and lower cheeks, a common version of the character in the Guatemalan Pacific Coast. The mask has fine carved hair and eyebrows and a prominent moustache that gives the character a great look. Great patina on the back denotes many years of use.
