Chajul (or San Gaspar Chajul) belongs to the Ixil Triangle, along with Nebaj and Cotzal. The three villages are located in an area surrounded by mountains. The Ixil weavers will characterized in its textiles, because they always show geometric and coloured designs. Chajul is more conservative in using many patterns together, which will make it more stylish. This huipil is woven in two panels, on a back strap loom, showing four selvedge ends. The patterns are woven in, using the one face brocading technique with cotton. The round neck opening, has its distinctive fleur-de-lis signature. The geometric designs represent birds, Maya cross, rhombuses for stars or planets and triangles.
