Three paneled white ceremonial huipil woven on a back strap loom. The white background is woven with handspun cotton. The piece is decorated with the feather serpent and zigzag designs on each panel, which (when the huipil is extended) will form the Mayan Cross with the Sun in the center (neck decoration). Cotton and wool threads are used to weave these brocade decorations. The neckline is cut out and decorated with hand embroidered thread symbolizing the sun. Two round velvet fabric decorations are sewn on each side, which represents the two phases of the moon. The three panels are joined with a ”cruceta” fashion (cross-stitch embroidery) with indigo cotton.
