This ceremony is a very good example of the Indigenous view about the European colonization and the Western Culture. The white faced Boss, the Patzcar owns the ranch or “Finca”, and he has a wife or daughter, the “Patzcarina”; the plot of the ceremony is the life at the ranch and the cowboys (all wearing crude black masks) that work at it. There will be a contest to prove the manhood of the cowboys and it consist in fighting each other with whips (for real) to earn the love of the Patzcarina. The winner will take her away, fooling the boss. All the Patzcar Masks have white skin, moustaches and sunburned cheeks (red dots on cheeks and chin), indicating the European roots. Notice the thick carved black painted eyebrows and stylish white painted eyelashes and elegant moustaches giving the character a stylish look. Magnificent patina on the back denotes use.
