The Ajitz is a wizard or shaman that can tell the future by throwing magical beans. People will bring offerings to him like food, beverage, cigars or money and he will read the future in his oracle. The red color has a cosmic significance for the Mayan Culture. The character had blond hair that was later painted black by the Moreria owners in order to transform the character into a Maya Warrior. Fine carved hair and moustaches give the piece a solemn look. Notice the gracefully painted eyebrows and eyelashes that highlight the beautiful black eyes. Golden teeth tell us about the social status of this recently transformed Warrior. Patina on the backside denotes use.
