Colonial Houses in Antigua had a large collection of Religious Images as decorative items. The piece is “undressed” because the owner would have dressed the image according to his taste; most of the times with robes. Notice the carefully carved hair, moustaches and beard decorated with curls. Beautiful brown glass eyes and blushed cheeks and fine lips give the piece a lovely expression. The piece has articulated joints in order to present different positions and gestures. The figure sits on a wooden stand. The fingers of both hands and feet are complete, a rare condition in such an old piece. Both sides of the forehead show little damage in its original paint.
