5Every day Huipil Three panelled Huipil woven on a back strap loom. In Santa Catarina Palopó the ladies changed their traditional red Huipil for purple, blue or turquoise colour. The material used to be cotton, but the new fashion is to weave the blouses with acrylic. This Huipil is woven new, using the old traditional style. The centre panel is woven with a red background alternating with different yellow and white thin warp stripes every 1.5”. The other side panels are woven with a red and white striped background. The three panels show zoomorphic (ducks, crabs, egrets and spiders), dolls and geometric designs, which are woven in. The neckline is cut out in a square shape. All the colours are chemical dyes.
