Colonial Houses in Antigua had a large collection of Religious Images as decorative items. The piece is “undressed” because the owner would have clothed the image according to his taste, most of the times with robes. Notice the carefully carved hair decorated with a golden aureole that demonstrates his holiness. Detailed moustaches and beard carvings, beautiful brown glass eyes and blushed cheeks give the piece a lovely look. The piece has articulated joints in order to present different positions and gestures. The figure sits on a wooden stand, notice the sandals that give the piece an exquisite touch. The heart has a gorgeous golden aureole and a green crown of thorns; in the upper section of the heart a flame grows and has a cross on top symbolizing Christ’s passion.
