This is an extremely rare piece that belongs to the Dance of St. George in its Rabinal version called “La Sierpe”. The character represents a Small Dragon and it is in charge of guiding the large dragon to eat the virgins in the tale of St. George. In the dance, this character and his “bigger” dragon represent all that is evil, and St. George and Christianity, all that is good. The character has an elegant dark green background highlighted with delicate golden details in the eyebrows and in middle of the eyes. Two rare and unique colorful coral snakes frame the face of the Dragon from the forehead to the lower chin. The thick golden eyebrows highlight the red and black painted eyes with golden aureoles. Notice the unusual black nose and moustaches that combined with red painted mouth with tiny painted teeth gives the mask a scary look. The forehead has a golden curl. The backside was painted with olive green paint, but still the patina can be appreciated. Please notice that the price includes FREE USPS Shipping.
