This is a magnificent old “Atabal” or drum worn during ceremonial masked dances of the Mayan Festivals in the Guatemalan Highlands. Since this is a smaller drum, it has a leather strap and it can be played by hand or a stick. The piece was carved at the costume shops or Morerias that rent the masks, costumes and musical instruments to the dancers. The piece has a beautiful leather cord system that pulls the leather on all sides for a greater sound. The leather strings can be modified, to vary the tie strength, for the different notes and tunes. The piece is perfect condition, given its age and has a rich sound. Just notice a very small defect that was solved with a piece of tape by the former owner. Please notice that the price includes FREE USPS Shipping.
